Rituals of Renewal

Let your world bloom!
Birds are singing, flowers are blooming... spring is here! (At least in the Northern Hemisphere!) This month's challenge is about rituals and traditions that, just like spring, paint the world with renewed life. Specifically, this challenge's prompt is...
Write about a tradition in your world focused on renewal, rebirth, or rejuvenation.
You will need to use the tradition template for this challenge, but there are many ways to interpret this prompt! Here are some examples:
  • Birth and coming-of-age rituals
  • Birthday parties
  • Death rites, in cultures that believe in the afterlife or in reincarnation
  • Coronation ceremonies
  • Festivals related to fertility and planting
  • Spring harvest festivals
  • Rituals of purifications, cleansing, and atonement
  • Spring equinox festivals
  • Antique restoration traditions (like Japanese kintsugi)
  • Rituals meant to restore youth
  • Housewarming parties
  • Spring cleaning rituals
  • Traditions related to ghosts, zombies, and other undead creatures

The Rules

How to Enter

First of all, you need a World Anvil account (don’t worry, it’s free!) to get started. Once you’ve logged in and created your first world, you’re ready to enter the challenge!

Rules

  • Articles must be submitted before the closing time to be eligible (the challenge will close during the World Anvil livestream on May 3rd). Late submissions will not be counted for the participation badge.
  • You may only submit one article (this does not mean one article per world, in cases where multiple authors work on a single world).
  • World Anvil retains the right to arbitrate and/or change the rules where necessary to uphold the spirit and integrity of this event and the community. We will communicate changes as necessary.
  • As always, World Anvil claims no ownership over your original work.

Other information

  • Your submission has to use the Tradition article template and be related to the prompt of this challenge.
  • Your submission must be published (i.e. not draft) and public (i.e. not private).
  • If you're not sure if your idea fits the prompt, the answer is probably yes! The goal of the event is to challenge yourself, so go forth and worldbuild!
  • You can submit in any language you want.
  • This is not a competitive event. Every single participant will get a digital participation badge, and no winners will be chosen.
The challenge will close during our community streams on May 3rd, at 6pm UK/10am Pacific. Follow us on Twitch to be notified when we go live!
For any questions or clarifications about this challenge, message the Community Team (@Community Team) on the World Anvil Discord or post to the World Anvil Facebook Group!
